Message From The Centre Manager
Welcome back to our 44th season here at Redcliffe Little Athletics. Wow it’s going to be an amazing season with us hosting the Regional Championships in February 2018. The off season has gone so fast for me and I am now looking forward to my 11th season as Centre Manager. How exciting with the FISU World University Games just finished in August, with some of our top Australians competing in the IAAF Diamond League and with the Gold Cost hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games starting on 4th of April 2018. It is great to see so many returning families and hopefully the new members will enjoy their first season.
I would like to thank Yvette D’Ath (MP for Redcliffe) for once again accepting an invitation to be our Club Patron. I personally would like to thank both the seasoned committee members and the new committee members that have put their hands up to help keep this club going.
We have two new committee members joining this season; Andrew Wearne and Lainey Stevens. Congratulations to Sandy Burrell for receiving our Redcliffe Life Member. Sandy has been a long-time committee member and that voice over the PA system most Friday nights.
A big thank you goes out to all the parents that volunteer each Friday, not just the compulsory 10 nights but every Friday. I know your own athletes appreciate your help more than you know. Without parents like you, we would not be able to function.
I will take this opportunity to acknowledge the long association with Redcliffe Leagues Club for their financial support to our club. With their support, we can purchase new equipment when required throughout the season. Thanks to Gary and Venessa form Seafood Town located at Woody Point for the Volunteer of the Month Vouchers and to Redback Pest Control for keeping the club pest free for the season. We encourage all our families to support the local businesses that support the club. Bendigo Community Bank has supplied the club with a lap counter for the eager 3km walks and runners from one of many grants that we are able to apply for throughout the season.
This season for a regional competition, Arana Little Athletics will be hosting relays in November and in February our club, Redcliffe Little Athletics will be hosting the Regional Championship which is a three-day event. We encourage all parents to get in and help for this event. Also, this season our Twilight event will be a carnival and not a pentathlon and will be held on Saturday 21st of October.
Yours in sport
John McRoberts
